Meet the Keynote Speakers

Joshua Burns

Keynote Session: Integrating biomechanics into the care of neurological disorders Joshua Burns is Professor of Paediatric Neuromuscular Rehabilitation in Sydney, Australia. Professor Burns is Director of the Paediatric Gait Analysis Service of New South Wales at the Sydney Children's Hospital Network (Randwick and Westmead) and Co-Director of the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Research Group at The University of Sydney. Professor Burns combines clinical and research training in Podiatry, Physiotherapy and Neurology focussing on the lower extremity consequences of nerve, muscle and brain disorders. He is particularly interested in clinical trials which integrate biomechanics, neurogenetics and rehabilitation to evaluate new treatments for children and adults with neuromuscular disorders.

Joseph Hamill

Keynote Session: Rearfoot-Forefoot Coordination After Treatment for Clubfoot Joseph Hamill is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has authored or co-authored over 150 research papers, over 150 research proceedings, multiple book chapters and three books. He has also presented over 200 papers at both national and international conferences. He has been an invited speaker at numerous universities in the United States and in countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Portugal, Spain, England, Wales, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Austria, Singapore, Czech Republic, Ireland, Venezuela and New Zealand. He is a Fellow of the Biomechanics Academy Research Consortium, the American College of Sports Medicine, the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, the Canadian Society of Biomechanics and the National Academy of Kinesiology. During his academic career, he has mentored more than 50 graduate students. Dr. Hamill’s research interests are focused on lower extremity biomechanics during normal and pathological locomotion.
