The "2. Orthopädie Schuh Technik - Europäische Fachmesse und Kongress" in Cologne on 18 and 19 October 2013 was an international meeting point of the industry of orthopaedic shoe technology - with guests from more than 30 countries. An increased number of visitors, motivated exhibitors and the well-frequented specialized program showed once again that the publishing house Maurer-Verlag with the magazine "foot&shoe" as organizer and the Central Association Orthopaedic Shoe Technology as conceptual sponsor indeed met a real need within this industry.
"The industry of orthopaedic shoe technology requires - and wants to have - its own event where the complete range of service providers and suppliers is presented in a concentrated way and where future-oriented concepts - especially for this area of the allied health professions - are being presented and discussed at the congress", Carl Otto Maurer, MD of C. Maurer Druck und Verlag, affirms. "The fact that it was so well-received shows us, that this independent event for orthopaedic shoe technology obviously is a necessary and sensible complement to the existing trade fairs of the industry", says the publisher of the specialized magazine and of the specialized book "Orthopädieschuhtechnik" and other publications around foot and shoe. The number of visitors on both trade fair and congress days proved him right: 3 300 visitors from more than 30 countries came to the metropolis on the Rhine and made use of the industry's meeting point in order to get informed, to interchange ideas, to learn something new and to educate themselves. The number of participants of the trade fair and also of the congress exceeded those of the first event in 2011 by far - the congress was fully booked on both days.

The internship exchange was intended to be a platform. Here companies could offer internships and also potential interns could publish what they were looking for: In cooperation with the IVO and the companies from its member countries, the internship exchange is supposed to arranged for contacts and thus strengthen the professional exchange on a national and an international level. Specialized program of congress also in English
The industry's meeting point 2013 was also designed to be an event of "short ways", therefore the trade fair and the congress were situated very close to each other. Apart from the exhibition space that has grown to a size of 7000 m2 where the 144 exhibitors set up attractive stands, the European Trade Fair offered a practice-oriented lecture program in the annexed congress area. This program was simultaneously interpreted into the English language.
It was especially important for the organizers to get representatives from science and from the allied health professions to talk to each other. Thus both sides discussed new solutions for foot problems and for treatments. The latest findings from science - for example from shoe research, motion analyses or foot surgery on hind-foot and forefoot - were presented as well as practical examples of treatments with made-to-measure shoes and orthotics.
